I don't blog, or even Instagram, half the things I eat, and always end up thinking that I don't really have much of a social life and don't eat out all that much. It took a scroll through my iPhone photos to make me realise that that simply isn't true, so every month from now on I'll be blogging my Best Eats of the month!
January is always a month filled with good food - it's just off the back of Christmas, summer is in full force, and there are always lots of daylight hours to while away with good friends and good food.
So, in no particular order, here are some of the fabulous things I ate in January...
El Loco @ The House
After work on a sunny beautiful Friday summer's night, the Sydney Harbour Bridge as our backdrop, sitting next to the Opera House, munching on a generous hot dog, crunchy corn chips and sipping lime slushies, life doesn't really get much better than this!
Tingha at Tigers, Flemington Markets
Kilograms of fresh mud crab, cooked to order with these gorgeous noodles. There is no option but to get in with your hands to crack the shell to get the delicate crab meat, and boy it is always worth it! What made it even better was that the crab was only $8.80 per half kilogram. Yup, you read that right!
Haighs Chocolates
Haighs chocolate store is where I roam about and exercise will power to not pick up and purchase every single item. I stopped by to replenish my stock of dark chocolate peppermint frogs (if you have not tried, please do so immediately) and stopped at the pack of 4 marshmallows with interest. Thinking of the dark chocolate coated marshmallows I had in Paris from Pierre Marcolini, I picked up the packet. I practically squealed like a girl with delight at the unexpected pink inside, and then just shut up and ate the marshmallow. So good.
NaruOne
Oh yes. That is a whole plate of fried chicken. But not just any ordinary fried chicken, KOREAN fried chicken - the new KFC. Recommended to me repeatedly by Ramen Raff, I dragged an unsuspecting Swiss tourist with me there and ordered this. And another dish to not make it look so bad. Incredibly crunchy, and surprisingly not oily, this was just delicious and so more-ish. Don't be surprised if you see NaruOne's fried chicken make an appearance in my Best Eats for February, and March, and April...
The Chocolate Room
January saw a return of my sweet tooth, which went missing for the first trimester of my pregnancy. I welcomed it back with much joy, and then went on to eat chocolate over and over and over again. Which included the sucker above - hot crispy waffles, bananas and strawberries, with a pot of melted milk chocolate and a generous scoop of vanilla ice-cream on the side...
So there you have it, there are 5 delicious things that I ate in January. There were a lot of other things that I wanted to include on the list, such as my huge homemade slab of lasagna, but I had to draw the line somewhere!
I'm looking forward to compiling my February list (and of course, eating through it first!) but before that, what yummy things did you guys eat in January?
